What I'm currently failing to read

Do you ever have a time when you can't figure out what you want to read? Some days anything will do. You just want to pick up a book, sit down in a big comfy chair, have a cup of tea sitting by your side, and dive into something new. And then there's the time when you can't find anything. You don't know what you want to read, but you're searching for something to engage you. A mystery? Let's try a psychological thriller. How about some non-fiction? The Elegent Universe by Brian Greene's been sitting on your shelf for years and you just can't seem to motivate into more than a couple of chapters.

Well, that's where I am. I've picked up and started at least a dozen books in the last month or two and have managed to finish a grand total of..... 2! But I will continue in my search and I'll try and get back into the grove of just reading!

Susan and Bowen's Baby Shower Blankets

I made 2 blankets for Susan and Bowen's baby. The one on the right was knitted on size 6 Addi Turbo circular needles using Patons Beehive Baby Sport yarn in Spring Clover. It's a basic checkerboard pattern created by alternating blocks of knit and purl stitches with a garter stitch border. It's a good size for a blanket to use in a car seat or to just cover baby.

The other blanket was crocheted using a size I hook. I purchased some organic cotton from Knitpicks.com in "Malted Milk" and used Lion Brand Cotton-Ease in Almond and Blossom and used it in a shell pattern. It's sized about right for a crib blanket.

Starting Something New... again... for the ... oh, I've lost count

I already have a blog. I admit, I am pretty bad about posting. I've tried keeping a diary and journaling. I have several journals, their pages crisp, the bindings pristine. I do try, though. In addition to wanting to keep a record of thoughts and events in my life, I want to keep a record of what I've read, heard, made. Projects. Things like that. That's what I'm going to try and do here.

I love to read, but I don't necessarily have the best memory for authors or titles. There are too many books that I've read and loved, but can't remember the name of the book or who wrote it. One instance that comes to mind is a book I read when I was in elementary school (Go Carver Cougars!). Don't remember much about the book, but it was science fiction, which was something in and of itself back then. The book had a few pen and ink drawings, and one in particular stands out. Main character is a boy who's somehow ended up in the den of a dragon. This is a space dragon that has challenged the boy to a game of chess. Don't remember how the boy ended up in the lair, the stakes of the chess game, or really anything else.

Maybe that's one of the goals of this new blog. Since this is a public forum, I'll be able to keep a record of the books that I'm reading (or have recently read), but maybe I'll be able to get some help in learning the titles and/or authors of books that are flitting at the edge of my memory.

In addition to reading, I also knit and crochet. By no means am I an expert, but I have a growing stash of yarn and new projects that I am itching to start. Most of the things that I've taken time to finish have been given away as gifts. Again, I'm not the best when it comes to keeping a record, so I'll also try to use this blog to keep a record of what I've made: a picture (if I don't forget), yarn, needle(s), hook(s), etc.

I'll do my best to add links to cool spots and will refer to my other blog, k-place.blogspot.com. That's where I'll record the real life stuff and why I made something.

I guess I'm ready to jump in and see what happens!
